We had planned to return to the boat in April and get her ready to set sail in May. Instead we are unfortunately stuck in the UK under lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic with no way of knowing when we will be allowed to travel and see the boat again. Thankfully we were able to get an update on the boat from friends still out there and a very kind neighbour sent us a photo which put our minds at rest. We had heard that many boats had suffered from thefts over the winter especially those with roadside berths. This had been a particular concern of ours and one of the reasons we had moored the boat bows in hopefully making it a little more inaccessible to opportunistic thieves. We were therefore very relieved to receive a photo showing all the shore lines were still intact despite the severe winter storms and to hear confirmation that the outboard engine was still firmly attached to the stern.
We have heard that the liveaboards are under a very strict lockdown on their boats in Almerimar. Apparently the town has been cut off by roadblock and they are only allowed to leave their boats to walk to the supermarket or pharmacy. They are not allowed out to exercise and the shower and toilet block has been shut! We are quite thankful we are not stuck on a 36ft yacht in Almerimar right now.
